Job Requirements

To qualify for the General Worker role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Ability to read and write (ABET level literacy).

• Experience: No prior work experience required – perfect for entry-level candidates!

• Knowledge:

  • Understanding of cleaning with different chemicals and museum-specific cleaning practices.

  • Familiarity with artefact cleaning and aquarium maintenance (training provided).

  • Awareness of Batho Pele Principles for customer-focused service.

• Skills:

  • Effective written and verbal communication.

  • Good time management and ability to work independently or in a team.

  • Conflict management and ability to follow safety and security procedures.

Key Responsibilities

As a General Worker, you will:

• Clean Museum Facilities: Dust, sweep, polish, scrub, mop, and clean windows, walls, and equipment across the museum complex, including offices and exhibition areas.

• Maintain Exhibition Spaces: Clean exhibition cases and areas following museum practices to protect artefacts.

• Support Artefact Conservation: Assist with basic conservation tasks for museum artefacts under supervision.

• Manage Waste: Remove refuse and ensure proper disposal to maintain a safe environment.

• Handle Equipment: Use and store cleaning materials efficiently, ensuring equipment is maintained.

• Support Events: Assist with setting up, cleaning, and clearing venues for museum events and functions.

• Ensure Safety: Adhere to safety standards and security procedures to keep the museum environment secure.
