  • Position: Child and Youth Care Worker Grade 1 (X4 Posts)
  • Salary: R174 711 per annum (Level: CYC-A1)

    • Vhembe District: Thohoyandou Child & Youth Care Centre (Ref No: DSD/2024/40) – X2 Posts
    • Mopani District: Irish House (Ref No: DSD/2024/41) – X2 Posts

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: An appropriate recognised NQF level 4 (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification and a Basic qualification in Child Care.
  • Experience: Experience in a secure care environment is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge and understanding of legislative frameworks (Children’s Act, Child Care Act, Child Justice Act).
    • Good communication skills.
    • Good interpersonal relationships.
    • Ability to handle pressure.
    • Honesty and confidentiality.
    • Customer care skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Child Admission: Receive children and youth into the care facility and provide orientation.
  • Child Care and Development: Ensure the needs of children and youth are met and their development is supported.
  • Medical Services: Ensure children/youth receive necessary medical services.
  • Programs and Activities: Facilitate independent living, recreational programs, and therapy programs.
  • Family Engagement: Organise family visits and contacts.
  • Escort Services: Escort children to external services as needed.
  • Administration: Perform necessary administrative duties.
