BASIC POLICE DEVELOPMENT LEARNING PROGRAMME (BPDLP) – 2026 INTAKE
What is the BPDLP?
The Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) is a 24-month structured training programme designed for entry-level police trainees who want to build a career in the South African Police Service (SAPS).
It includes two main phases:
1️⃣ Academy Training Phase (10–12 months)

Conducted at an official SAPS Academy.

Focuses on law enforcement theory, policing principles, firearm handling, discipline, and professionalism.
2️⃣ Field Police Development Phase (12 months)

Practical training at a designated police station.

Trainees apply their classroom knowledge in real policing environments.
After successful completion, trainees may be appointed as SAPS Constables.
✅ Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)
To qualify for the BPDLP 2026, applicants must:

Be a South African citizen (must provide valid ID).

Be at least 18 years old and not older than 35 years by the closing date.

Hold a Grade 12 certificate (or equivalent qualification).

♀️ Be physically, mentally, and medically fit (subject to medical examination, psychometric assessment, fitness test, and security vetting).
