Job Overview

As an Admin Clerk (SHERQ), you will assist in coordinating, implementing, and monitoring SHERQ programs to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and related regulations. Based at one of Capricorn TVET College’s campuses, you will support the establishment of OHS committees, coordinate training, identify workplace hazards, and maintain SHERQ systems. This permanent role requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

  • SHERQ Program Coordination:

    • Assist in coordinating, implementing, and monitoring compliance with SHERQ programs.

    • Support the establishment and operation of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee.

    • Coordinate OHS-related training and continuous educational programs.

  • Hazard and Risk Management:

    • Participate in identifying workplace hazards and risks, initiating appropriate mitigation actions.

    • Assist in implementing and monitoring the SHERQ management system to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Administrative Support:

    • Maintain accurate records of SHERQ activities, including incident reports and compliance documentation.

    • Provide administrative support for SHERQ initiatives, such as compiling reports and managing databases.

    • Support the implementation of fire control and facilities management systems.

Requirements

  • Education:

    • Recognized 3-year National Diploma (NQF 6) in Building Management, Safety Management, Construction Management, Environmental Health, or a related field.

    • Fire Marshal and First Aid certificates are an added advantage.

  • Experience:

    • 2–3 years of experience in Facilities Management, SHERQ, or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) environments.

  • Inherent Requirements:

    • Valid Code B/EB driver’s license.

    • Willingness to travel between campuses or facilities as needed.

  • Knowledge and Skills:

    • Knowledge of the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).

    • Understanding of incident reporting processes, telephone management systems, fire control systems, and facilities management systems.

    • Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or completion of a computer literacy course.

    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work independently, handle conflict, and solve problems effectively.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Clear criminal record, verified through personnel suitability checks.

    • South African citizenship or valid work permit.

    • Preference for candidates from designated groups (Black, Coloured, Indian, women, people with disabilities) to meet Employment Equity objectives.
