The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially released the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payment schedule for March 2024. The payments will be exclusively for individuals who have been approved for the SRD grant during the third month of the year.
Payment Dates:
- SRD grant payments for April are scheduled to occur between April 25, 2024, and April 29, 2024.
Processing Time:
- Funds will typically take approximately 2 – 3 working days to reflect in the recipient’s account after the payment has been processed.
Verification Checks:
- SASSA conducts thorough verification checks to ensure that only eligible individuals receive SRD grant payments. These checks include identity and citizenship verification in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, as well as income verification through the Department of Treasury.
Eligibility Criteria:
- To qualify for the SRD grant, applicants must meet strict criteria, including being South African citizens, permanent residents, or special permit holders. They should not be receiving other government support, and their bank account balance should be less than R624 to be eligible for the R350 grant.
Payment Options:
- SRD grant beneficiaries have the option to receive their grant directly into their bank accounts for immediate access. Alternatively, those without a personal bank account can opt for the Cashsend payment option. Retail stores like Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer also facilitate grant collection.
SRD Grant Extension:
- Originally designed as a short-term grant during lockdowns, the SRD grant has been extended until March 2025. This extension aims to continue providing essential support to individuals without income. President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledges the crucial role the grant has played in preventing poverty among many recipients.
Check Your SRD Status and Appeal Process:
- SRD grant applicants can check their application status through a SASSA status check. If an application is rejected, applicants have the option to submit a grant appeal to the Independent Tribunal For Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
