Purpose of Position:
To mitigate and manage aviation safety hazards, occurrences, and incidents.
Prevent aircraft damage or accidents through safety checks, audits, and inspections.
Ensure compliance and safety, supporting the Group Safety function and Technical Safety standards.
Principal Accountabilities:
Strategic Implementation:
Implement Safety strategy in the designated area and support the departmental strategy and plan.
Financial Management:
Contribute to budget management and cost-saving initiatives to enhance profitability.
Process Management:
Ensure correct application of processes and systems to meet customer requirements.
Governance and Risk Management:
Adhere to policies, deliver reports to key stakeholders, and participate in optimization programs.
Safety and Compliance:
Support the Airline in meeting aviation safety goals, assist in incident investigations, and monitor corrective actions.
Safety Management System (SMS):
Assist in maintaining the safety management program in line with SACAA regulations, ICAO, and IATA standards.
Audits and Inspections:
Conduct safety audits and third-party audits, compile reports, and maintain a corrective action program.
Training and Communication:
Support safety training, process reports, develop safety bulletins, and conduct safety studies.
Hazard Identification:
Assist in hazard identification, risk assessment, and maintaining the Aviation Safety Risk Register.
Management of Change:
Support the development and maintenance of the Management of Change process.
Promotion of Technical Safety:
Promote technical safety through training, presentations, and other activities.
Inspections and Audits:
Conduct line operations safety inspections and compile audit reports.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Monitor corrective action plans and mitigation strategies.
Qualifications & Experience:
Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent at NQF level 4.
3-year diploma in A/C Mechanical or Avionics/Safety Management at NQF level 6.
Higher tertiary qualifications in maintenance are advantageous.
Commercial Pilot License (Air Transport Pilot) or Aircraft Maintenance License is beneficial.
Certificates in Auditing, Aviation Medicine (AVMED), and Human Factors.
Valid unendorsed driver’s license (Code B).
2-3 years of operational experience in aircraft maintenance or quality assurance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of SACAA Technical Standards/Regulations (CAT’s/CAR’s).
Understanding of airline operating procedures, human factors in maintenance, safety management, and crew resource management (CRM).
Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations (DGR) and airline technical/flight safety and emergency procedures.
Proficiency in AVSEC awareness training, computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and report writing.
Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to work proactively under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.
Team player with flexibility, adaptability, and a drive for results.
Strong organizational awareness, ethics, integrity, and collaboration.
