Learning and Development

The internship will rotate every six weeks between Jacaranda FM and VowFM, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.

At Jacaranda FM:

General newsroom operations
Story compilation and field reporting
News desk operations
Practical skills development in different areas of the news department

At VowFM:

Compiling and reading daily news bulletins
Field reporting and story packaging
News programming
Social media updates
Short courses with the Wits Radio Academy

Requirements

To qualify for the internship, applicants must have:

A Bachelor’s Degree or 3-year National Diploma in Journalism or a related field
A valid driver’s licence or be in the process of obtaining one
Excellent command of English, with a preference for bilingual candidates (Afrikaans and English)
Strong writing and voicing skills for radio
Ability to check facts and ensure accuracy and quality of stories
Experience operating studio and field recording and production equipment
Basic editing and multi-track mixing experience
