Job Description
Introduction
Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (PTY) Ltd, plays a dynamic role in the integrated broiler industry with an abattoir in Reitz in the North Eastern Free State. This position offers an opportunity to establish yourself in a professional, corporate environment in the countryside.
Role Overview
As a Dry-Cleaning Supervisor, you will supervise and oversee the dry-cleaning team, ensuring the cleaning process adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, you will maintain the litter removal machinery and vehicle in good repair.
At least five years of experience as a semi-skilled artisan or assistant.
Mechanical background with respect to tractors and farm equipment.
Computer literacy.
C1 Driver’s License with PDP.
Willingness to work overtime, including shifts, weekends, and holidays when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Liaison and Coordination:
Regularly communicate with farm managers and internal departments to ensure quality services and products.
Drive the company vehicle to transport the team safely to and from work and between various farm chicken houses after cleaning.
Team Management:
Manage the daily activities and outputs of the cleaning team.
Ensure the team receives clean overalls daily from the abattoir and wears proper PPE.
Optimize labor to utilize all personnel effectively.
Mentor and train employees to maintain standards, best practices, and processes.
Identify and address training needs to optimize the team’s skill set.
Safety and Maintenance:
Ensure all staff adheres to safety regulations.
Continuously monitor and minimize damage to buildings during litter removal.
Ensure the validity and timely renewal of all operators’ licenses.
Perform work inspections and check task completion.
Remove all litter/manure from chicken houses and ensure its safe loading and removal.
Documentation and Reporting:
Accurately complete daily documentation such as supervisor check sheets, vehicle/equipment check sheets, maintenance and repair job cards, diesel usage reports, end-of-shift reports, staff overtime sheets, monthly mechanical repair reports, and service records.
Report all faults and dangers on the premises to the line manager.
Ensure all staff follows farm rules and conducts themselves according to the company code of conduct when interacting with other farm personnel.
Mechanical Responsibilities:
Conduct daily inspections on farm equipment, identifying problems and needed repairs.
Complete mechanical work orders detailing necessary repairs and parts.
Perform routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.
Ensure all repairs are conducted per procedures and OEM standards.
Keep accurate records of preventative maintenance checks and repairs.
